Fallen law enforcement officers memorial scheduled Friday

| May 17, 2018 1:00 AM

On Sunday, May 13, at 8 p.m. at the National Mall, 360 fallen law enforcement officers were honored during the 30th annual Candlelight Vigil.

Here in Bonners Ferry, the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office and Chaplain Corps will host our local memorial observance at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18, to reflect and read the list of those who lost their lives in the line of duty last year, and encourage the living. The venue has changed this year to Becker Auditorium at Bonners Ferry High School. Everyone is invited to attend.

The ceremony will feature an honor guard, a memorial wreath presentation, a traditional last call, and, especially, the reading of the line of duty death list accompanied by a candlelight vigil.

New names of fallen officers are carved on the blue-gray walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers to the monument each spring in conjunction with National Police Week. Included in this list will be the names of 129 officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2017 and 231 officers who were killed in prior years but had been forgotten by time until the Memorial Fund’s research staff and a team of dedicated volunteers confirmed record of their law enforcement service.

For more information about our local remembrance, or to volunteer to assist with the event, please contact Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Len Pine at 208-267-3327.
