100 Years Ago

“Fats” and “Leans” to play baseball on Friday. The much talked about game for the benefit of the Red Cross will be played at the City Park grounds on the Northside. All the stars of the City will be asked to close for the game and there will be a big parade before the game. The rivalry between the teams has been smoldering for the past two years and gives promise that it will be a good game. The admission is 25 cents and 10 cents for children. The Red Cross will have 8-10 nurses on hand to take care of the “Fats” and is also arranging to have Drs. Fry and Keller on hand.

Fifteen received diplomas at the Northside Graduation. The auditorium was packed with patrons of the school and friends of the graduation. This was the largest class in the history of the school and also every member of the class completed the term and 9 of the class have percentages averaging over 90.

Under the new regulations of the U.S. Food Administration, sugar may now be purchased for canning. Not more than 100# of sugar by any one family. Persons wanting to purchase more must sign a card stating that they will use the sugar only for canning and that they will limit the use of sugar for other purposes to three pounds or less per person in the household.

Mrs. Rachel Rosebaugh of Bonners Ferry has been providing Kootenai River measurements to the Weather Bureau for the past 20 years and last week she was presented with an award recognizing her long service.

It was announced this week that a business transaction was recently completed whereby the Fred Lipp Company, a concrete ready mix and contracting firm, has been purchased by two Montana men, Maurice Sandaker of Kalispell and Bill Poulton of Baker. Lipp operated the business for 22 years.

Harold Myers of the Idaho State Police issued a reminder to all vehicle operators this week that a new Idaho law that was effective January 1st requires inspection of all Idaho-registered vehicles at authorized inspection stations.

More than 300 campers showed up last Friday at Behrman’s gravel pit for the 4th annual Krejci’s Mud Bog.

MacGyver used to be able to make just about anything out of duct tape and ordinary cleaners. Students in Ed Katz’ advanced CISCO networking class at BFHS recently pulled off an equally imaginative feat of creative engineering when they converted ordinary Pringles cans into antennas for wireless access.

After finishing second in the IML last year, the Bonners Ferry girls figured they had something to prove in 2003. They settled that score on their home track May 6, clinching the league crown with a convincing 84-52 romp over Timberlake in an Intermountain League dual.
