Isaac Roy Leonard Mastre

Isaac Roy Leonard Mastre was born to Gust and Alma Mastre on May 9, 1937. He peacefully passed away May 19, 2018, at Sunset Home, shortly after his 81st birthday. At the age of 10, he lost his father in a tragic car accident. After moving a few times, his family settled in Bonners Ferry in 1948.

Feeling the need of a Savior, he gave his heart to God at the age of 13 and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on May 14, 1950, by Minister Ernest Dirks. His faith was precious to him and he embraced it to the end.

On June 15, 1958, Roy was married to me, Marlyn Hatfield, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. We enjoyed nearly 60 years together. Our home was blessed with three sons and three daughters.

Dad was a man with a generous heart, caring for his family and gifted at reaching out to others and filling a special place in their lives. His children and grandchildren are left with many special memories. Dad was often heard humming snatches of song or auctioning. He was always happy to share a cup of coffee.

Providing for his family was a joy to Dad and he worked at many occupations: logging, farming, dairying, sawmill work, raising cattle, carpentry, cabinet building and raising hogs. After retiring, he enjoyed walking in the woods, spending time at his barn, driving around and having coffee with his friends.

In Dad’s later years, he struggled with the effects of dementia. His family spent time lovingly caring for the man who had cared for them. Dad spent his final two months at Sunset Home, receiving wonderful care from the workers. With family around him, Dad peacefully went home to be with Jesus.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marlyn, and children Rick and Cindy Mastre, Ronda and Charles Seaman, Rolonda and Dalton Unruh, all of Connell, Wash.; Renee and Jim Dyck, Frank and Heidi Mastre of Bonners Ferry; Gust and Sharon Mastre of Worland, Wyo.; 36 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren; one sister, Joann and Ernie Dirks; four brothers, Bob and Joanne Mastre of Bonners Ferry; Cyril and Lillie Mastre of Grant, Neb.; Bill and Barbara Mastre of Grand View, Idaho; Lloyd and Delores Mastre of Montrose, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Leonard and Ruth Unruh of Grafton, N.D.; two sisters-in-law: Lillian Mastre and Carol Mastre of Bonners Ferry; brother-in-law Ed and Renae Nelson; sister-in-law Lynda and Leroy Dowd of Bonners Ferry; half brother-in-law Allen and Linda Hatfield of Silver City, Iowa; half sister-in-law Brenda Bergman of Aurora, Neb.; and step mother-in-law Rosalie Hatfield of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, parents-in-law, four sisters, two brothers, a sister-in-law, four brothers-in-law, a half brother-in-law, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, May 24, 2018, at Mountain View Congregation in Bonners Ferry. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
