Michael S. Young

Michael S. Young passed away on Jan. 26, 2018.

Mike was born Aug. 4, 1945, in Glendale, Ariz. As a small child, he accompanied his mother and sister, as she searched for work to support her small family. They finally settled in Mesa, Ariz., which he considered his home for the rest of his life.

His mother passed away unexpectedly, when he was quite young; his family was very close and this was devastating to him. He was then brought up by his sister and grandmother.

Immediately after his high school graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served on many deployments throughout parts of Asia, including two 13-month tours to Vietnam. He left the U.S.M.C. as a staff sergeant.

On his return, Mike earned his accounting degree with the help of the VA, in addition to working very hard at a variety of jobs from convenience store clerk, construction to nurses’ aide, to just name a few. The position he was most well-known for Chief Financial Officer at Boundary Community Hospital.

Mike survived diabetes, several MIs and strokes, bouts of cancer, and other serious ailments too numerous to list. We prayed that his fighting spirit would help him to survive this last blow, but we know he is now pain-free and at rest with The Savior. He died on Jan. 26, 2018, in a rehab facility in Tucson, Ariz., with his daughters nearby.

He is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and sister, Sande. He is survived by his children, Tina Clausen, (Chris), Rebecca Young; his wife, Kathy; five grandchildren, Curtis and Bradly Clausen, Caitlin (Tyler Szabo), Bethany (J.T. Warden) and Rachel Young; as well as five great-grandchildren.

Mike had a great sense of humor that he kept until the very end. He will be remembered for his great generosity and his tremendous love for his family.

A private ceremony was held on March 1, 2018, in the desert of Southern Arizona.
