On Saturday, May 19, Missoula, Mont., hosted its second Garden City Open Jiu-Jitsu tournament. Bonners Ferry Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sent 25 competitors there of all ages and had amazing results.

Bonners Ferry BJJ is part of the Team Sylvio Behring-United States, association. In total, the association sent 41 competitors with 25 of them from Bonners Ferry.

“The team did very well and took first place overall at the tournament,” said Coach Sam Brown. “We won and had almost 100 more points than the second placed team.”

With help from local businesses like General Feed & Grain, Inc., the team was able to sponsor a lot of students and travel with more competitors than ever before.

“I can’t thank them enough for helping out,” said Brown. “It was great to see our team show up and have a huge impact on the event.”

The total medal count was 23 golds, 21 silvers, and 12 bronzes.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the team for their performance and also all of the hard work that was put in to get ready for it. We had five teenage students ages 15-16 enter into adult brackets and not only win lots matches but a combined, three gold medals!”
