Two Tones Cafe brings world to Bonners Ferry
BONNERS FERRY — Two Tones Cafe opened its doors to the community for the first time on Opening Night on May 22, and has continued offering a partial menu from 5-9 p.m. so customers could try their food, and give the staff the chance to perfect everything.
When a customer enters the front door of the establishment, they may notice the decor. It is a medley of historical pieces, family history, and worldwide memorabilia, mixed with the rustic country cabin feel that the building brings to the mix.
On the wall by the front desk are various pictures of owner Tony Fleck’s family, which brings a historical vibe to the forefront of the cafe. As one continues to walk through the dining area, the themed tables pique curiosity and spark conversation.
The decor is centered around the theme “Bringing Bonners Ferry to the World,” with its tables themed around different areas of the world such as Bonners Ferry, the state of Idaho, Canada, Italy, Germany, Ireland, California, and the United States, among several other areas.
The door through the rear of the dining area brings customers to a secluded patio garden, completed with a waterfall, koi pond, ground vegetation, and tree cover, which eliminates the feel of one being next to a busy highway, and may bring a sense of calm. During the evening, there are strings of lights that illuminate the area and bring a romantic feel to it. In the future, Fleck plans to host outdoor grill specials.
Fleck’s family has a long history of military service, which he integrated into the interior decor as well, through pictures of ancestors, and momentos placed around the dining area that support the four main branches of the military: Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.
Fleck, being a part of a military family, experienced living on various military bases stationed around the world. He graduated from Bonners Ferry High School, and after some odds and ends cooking jobs, he enrolled in the Marines. After retiring from the military lifestyle, Fleck moved his family back to Bonners Ferry, and has since been establishing a foothold in the area in order to bring global cuisine to the residents in an inviting environment.
“The food was absolutely amazing and my 5-year-old kept telling me how good it was,” said Kimberly Reed. “Our waitress was super sweet and I love the environment, it was very welcoming.”
With dishes ranging from a New York steak, to spaghetti with a large mozzarella stuffed meatball, to Asian cuisine, they bring a little bit of every corner of their combined talents to the menu.
Both entrees and desserts have tempted the palette of those who have attended the restaurant during its soft opening period.
“The cheesecake was delicious, and the whipped cream wasn’t store bought,” said Ashley Gray. “The fettuccine was so rich and creamy, the best I’ve ever had in town, and the ribs just fell off the bone.”
With ravishing compliments over the food, there were also raves over the service.
“Having owned my own business and worked in the food industry, I am a huge foodie, and this place is simply amazing,” said Alison Henslee. “The food is very flavorful, high quality, and beautifully plated. The menu is nicely varied, the pricing is reasonable, especially for the caliber of their meals and high-end desserts. Service was top-notch; our whole experience was impressive, especially for opening night.”
Through setbacks, long nights, and hard work, the family has been able to bring things together for the Two Tones Cafe to make its June 2 grand opening special for Bonners Ferry.
