Superintendent Scoop: Busy days for the BCSD

I will get this edition of our districts update out on the scariest of all school days— HALLOWEEN! Not scary for the ghosts and goblins that will come to school on Wednesday but for the extra special work by our teachers and admin to keep kids focused and away from mischief … I’m just saying!

Let’s start this letter with a welcome to Niki Weaver, the newest member of the BCSD Board of Trustees. She has chosen to represent Zone 3 for the next year. Thank you, Niki! We are still accepting names for Zone 4 and will interview the candidates on Dec. 5.

Fall fell quickly! So far this year our students have shown strong effort in and out of the classroom. The boys soccer team finished the season undefeated and had a strong run at State. Our Cross Country Team excelled as individuals and as a team. In all programs we learned much from our wins and losses and will continue to re-assess each program for a more successful future.

Superintendent of BCSD comes with many challenges but also great rewards! Giving back to the community that has given us everything is of the utmost importance. I once again challenge the Leadership Classes of the MS and HS to the Annual Turkey vs. Ham Contest for Christmas Baskets. The goal this year is for 100 turkeys and 100 hams for the needs in our community. Two years ago the MS collected more than the HS; last year the HS won the contest. Let’s see who gets the rubber-match! These FROZEN items need be collected at the schools on December 20. Do not send them earlier as we do not have freezer space at the schools.

BUT, before the Christmas Basket Project comes Thanksgiving! The Ministerial Association and Boundary County School District will sponsor the Annual Bonners Ferry Community Thanksgiving Supper on Nov. 18, from 2-6 p.m. at the Middle School. This event takes all of us! Last year we served over 500 individuals. That equals 25 turkeys, 10 hams and all the fixings, including desserts. Please contact the Minister of your choice so we can coordinate our efforts. Your donation needs to arrive fully cooked; the MS kitchen can keep the items warm until serving. There is plenty of work for everyone: cooking, serving, cleaning, and/or socializing! Overseeing this project is Jacob Hinson, for more info call 208-597-5618 or email pastorjacobhinson@gmail.com.
