100 Years Ago
Republicans win in State and County- Election of D.W. Davis for Governor and Frank R. Gooding for Senator – probably a Republican State Senate and House of Representatives. The only candidate in this county endorsed by the non-partisan league was Jos. Barto and his Republican opponent, A.J. Kent won with a 2 to 1 vote.
Colonel T.R. Evans of the 6th North Stafford Regiment of England was killed in action on Oct. 2 in the battle of Belle Glish, France. The sad news was received here on Sunday by his wife who for the past year has been living with her 2 children at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. Causton.
Boundary Co. had many deaths this week because of the Spanish influenza or its’ complications: Paul Peter, age 27, and his brother Gottlieb Peter, age 25; Loren William Turner, age 18; Lillian Lenora Travis, age 21 of Naples; Ola Stockton, age 16 of Copeland; Barbara Ella Lindsay, age 38 - survived by 5 children; and Fred Hoagland, age 30. William H. Atkins died in France but of pneumonia.
Mrs. Justine Fry, for more than 30 years a resident of this district, passed away at the age of 76. She is survived by 8 children. She was a kind, loving mother, a conscientious Christian and a member of the Catholic Church. Services were held Thursday.
Manager R.H. McCoy of the B.F. Lumber Co. announced the promotion of several men at the company. Douglas Palmer is now sales manager and Ward Duvall is cashier. He also announced the closure of the mill for the season within the next few days.

Harry Behrman known as “Bud” to everyone who knows him, operates a cattle ranch just north of Moyie Springs and recently added a new breed of cattle to his herd after becoming interested in the Gertrudis beef breed. He began with “Chester” a 2135-pound Santa Gertrudis bull.
The Federal Power Commission in Washington, D.C. yesterday approved Pacific Gas Transmission Company’s application to import addition natural gas from Canada and build several new compressor units, including a compressor station in the vicinity of Eastport in Boundary County.
Naples elementary school has had a very successful football season for 1968. The undefeated champs ended the season of five wins and one tie.
The Future Homemakers of America girls at BFHS are offering free babysitting to voters wishing to go to the poles at Bonners Ferry on Election Day from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Nancy and Bob Denny of Vancouver, Wash stood in front of the Bonners Ferry Herald office, the same newspaper that Nancy’s great-great grandfather, Stephan Douglas Taylor, started when he published the maiden edition in 1891 (called the Kootenai Herald) before selling the business in 1912.
Frank and Marcia Miller of Bonners Ferry will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Marcia Yvonne Demers married Francis Leo Miller on Nov. 10, 1953, at Thompson Falls, Mont. The Millers have lived in the Bonners Ferry area for over 40 years.
With only enough revenue to meet approximately 58 percent of the Restorium’s operating budget, Boundary County Commissioners are trying to come up with a solution that would keep taxpayers from always having to foot the bill.
