BOISE — In the first season with new qualifying standards and new enrollment classifications, Bonners Ferry swimmer Julia Cummings continued her strong performances at state.

Cummings, competing in the new combined 1A-4A enrollment classification, finished third in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke at the Idaho State Swim Meet on Nov. 3 at the Boise West YMCA.

The Badger sophomore finished in 25.98 seconds in the 50 free, finishing behind Kaitlyn Shelley of Century (25.05) and SWAC club teammate Mikayla Schoening of Sandpoint HS (25.38).

In the 100 back, Cummings swam a season-best 1:03.67, a third-place effort behind Anika Rubocki of Bishop Kelly (59.17) and Aspen Harris of Columbia (1:01.04).

Both times topped her state-championship performances of last year, when 3A enrollment schools such as Bonners Ferry were in a separate division. The two swimmers who finished ahead of Cummings in each event swim for 4A enrollment schools, meaning she was the top 3A finisher again this season.

The 24 points Cummings earned placed Bonners Ferry 14th among the 22 schools with swimmers in the 1A-4A classification.
