Bonners Ferry High School just wrapped up the first quarter of the 2018-2019 school year, and we are all celebrating a busy autumn. Through all the hustle and bustle of extracurricular activities, co-curricular events, and the standard busyness of high school, it is important to highlight the hard work that happens behind the scenes.

Some of that extraordinary work took place during Idaho College Application Week. The Idaho Application Week initiative was established in 2013 by the Idaho State Board of Education and a proclamation from the governor. The website boardofed.idaho.gov states that the initiative was engineered to support the State of Idaho’s goal that 60 percent of Idahoans from 25-34 years of age would hold a postsecondary degree or credential by the year 2020.

This school year, Idaho designated College Application Week to take place from Oct. 22-26. Our Counseling Department and College and Career staff members dedicated themselves to this initiative. With the support of the students and all staff members at Bonners Ferry High School, we are proud to report that 100 percent of our active 12th-grade students applied to one or more postsecondary institutions. Way to go BFHS Seniors!

Many kudos to Jaycee Atkins, Jennifer Mackey, Emily Winebark, and Linda McLeish for their dedication to this initiative and the support they provide to our students. A tremendous thank you to all the staff at BFHS for continuing to focus on lifelong learning and productive citizenship. I continue to have more faith than ever that Boundary County and Bonners Ferry High School will continue to produce future citizens that positively impact our local community and the world around us. Please, ask our students about their plans for the future, and let us know if you have any summer internship opportunities for our students. We need your help readying them for the future.
