Sign up today for annual Turkey Trot

| November 15, 2018 12:00 AM

Bonners Ferry is looking forward to its 10th annual fun, family-friendly-and-free Turkey Trot 5K/10K this year on Thanksgiving morning. Organizer Carolyn Testa will be at the Fairgrounds at 8 a.m. for the run to begin at 9 a.m.

“This is going to be a really great run this year, with more prizes than ever, and of course, our pumpkin pie with whipped cream, hot cocoa, and wonderful Jack’s Black coffee from Under the Sun,” Testa said.

“This started as our ‘Second Helping’ run for the day, and now that we’re in our tenth year, it’s kinda become a tradition for lots of individuals and families. We’ve grown from 50 runners our first year to over 150 last year. And we’ve provided the Food Bank with over five barrels of food each year!”

The gun goes off promptly at 9 a.m. from the Boundary County Fairgrounds and leads runners down Riverside Road to the 5K turnaround past Mirror Lake Road. The 10K continues past the 5K turnaround and will be marked with cones. The water station is near the 5K turnaround.

“It’s a nice little out-and-back, and Jim Cadnum has generously measured out both distances with his running wheel,” said Testa. “We’ve collected a committed group of volunteers over the years, and I’m certain there wouldn’t be a Turkey Trot without them. Talk about being thankful!”

There will be pumpkin pie with whipped cream and hot chocolate with marshmallows at the finish line, along with drawings for frozen turkeys, Indian Corn arrangements donated by Jim Cadnum, and a variety of prizes at the end of the run. This year there’ll be T-shirts created by Far North Logo Shop that can be purchased by donation to the Food Bank, yoga class passes & reflexology gift certificates from Alicia Braden’s “Keep in touch” Studio, a hat from Iron Mike’s Gym, running cap with built-in speakers from ET Wireless, a pound of Jack’s Black coffee with mug from Under The Sun, insulated coolers from a Mountain West Bank, and more.

Turkey Trivia with prizes starts at 8:40 a.m., so be early!

The run remains free, no registration, and it is timed. It’s a great way to earn your second piece of pie before 10 a.m. Please remember to bring your non-perishable food item for the Food Bank!
