Boundary County Middle School is in the spirit!

Boundary County Middle School is already three eighths of the way through the year and this has been a very positive one so far. Students and staff alike are breathing well, staying busy, and looking forward to keeping the momentum going.

Our Volley for the Cure fundraiser and activities were an incredible success! We raised $532.50 to donate to local cancer organizations. BCMS supported wearing pink for one day and sold pink items to raise money. Our school was definitely very pink with the majority of students wearing something pink as well as music playing during passing time referring to the color pink. It was a full day of pink to say the least.

We also had a fundraiser at Two Tones restaurant to support the Hope House and BOCO programs. Our students helped served and entertain guests and a portion of the proceeds went to those programs. Each program received about $800!

Our Penny War fundraiser was amazing! Just under $1500 was raised which went to supporting our Veterans in conjunction with Veterans’ Day which we observed on Monday, Nov. 12. This activity had study hall classes against each other in a type of fundraiser where pennies are worth positive points and all other monies are worth negative points. Most students had several Veterans in to talk about their experiences on Monday during Study Hall.

Wrestling home meets have all taken place with one being canceled. All the rest are away. We have a small team this year but they have been wrestling hard and having good time as well. Districts will be held in Kellogg on Dec. 6.

Mid-second quarter is Dec. 6, with report cards being sent home with students on Dec. 13.

Dec. 10 will be our holiday choir concert along with BFHS at Becker Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Dec. 15 will be our Lego League Tournament hosted right here at BCMS! It is a great time to see teams from around the area judged on their projects and ability to complete tasks with their Lego robots. Stop by to see the competition.

Dec. 17 will be our holiday band concert along with BFHS at Becker Auditorium at 7 p.m.

Dec. 20 will be the last day of school this year (calendar) and winter break will begin. We will host a variety of events that day around school with the focus on fun and activities culminating in our annual dodgeball game where one team of students will win the privilege of challenging our staff team. We always have a great time on this day so if you want to come watch the game we should be starting around 3 p.m.

The NIC Bonners Ferry Center will be leading college exploration activities with eighth grade students, beginning with advisory class visits in November. Follow up events are planned later in the year. The Mapping Your Future project is a grant-funded initiative sponsored by the Equinox Foundation. With this program, NIC also hopes to engage parents, teachers, and community members in supporting local youth. For more details, please contact the NIC Bonners Ferry Center at 208.267.3878, ext. 2.

We have also just been awarded a Gear Up grant which will be used to help our seventh grade students explore future options for both college and careers. Next year the grant will affect both seventh and eighth graders and follow both classes through high school. Events and activities associated with this grant are still being worked out so stay tuned.
