Ron Shelman

Ron Shelman, 76, passed away peacefully in his home on Oct. 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Ron fought hard, but eventually lost his life to multiple myeloma.

Ron was born Feb. 3, 1942, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, to Monk and Virginia Shelman. He graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1960. He then attended the University of Idaho where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He completed his degree at the University of Puget Sound while he was employed as a police officer with the City of Seattle. Ron retired the summer of 1990 after serving 25 years in a variety of roles for the police department. After retirement, Ron enjoyed self-employment operating his tractor and implements. Most common were jobs involving custom site preparation for homeowners.

Ron married Cheryle, the love of his life, on June 15, 1968. One year later they moved to the outskirts of Issaquah, Wash. It was there they raised their twin son and daughter, Jeff and Jodi. Once their children were off to college, it was apparent it was time for a new community. Ron and Cheryle moved to Whidbey Island the fall of 1996. Not surprising to those who knew him, Ron had a wonderful ability to reach out and connect with those around him in this new community. He spent his entire life establishing treasured friendships and connecting with his beloved family. It came naturally to Ron to reach out to people in need and he was always there to lend a hand.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Cheryle; his two children Jeff and Jodi and their spouses Malinda and Randy; his beloved grandchildren Madison Rae Shelman, Jake Jeffrey, Chloe, and Brent Haines; his sisters Lynne Lull; Nancy Wicks and her husband, Mike; Sandra Aadland and her husband, Andy; nieces/nephews Stephanie Chapman, Kimberly Frielinger, Christopher Wicks, Kristin Swail (Tom), Koleen Kallus (Eric), and Erik Aadland (Megan).
