Rosalyn Clark, 85, passed away in Spokane, Wash., on Oct. 7, 2018. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Coffelt Funeral Chapel in Sandpoint, Idaho. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Rosalyn was born Aug. 6, 1933, to Carl and Ione Hobson Frank at home on their farm southeast of Bonners Ferry, Idaho. She grew up on the farm and always loved the country life. She graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1951, and the following year she began nurses training at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Wash., graduating with her RN degree in 1955. It was her dream to go back to her hometown hospital to work, and she had the opportunity to work at the new hospital in Bonners Ferry for two years, gaining valuable experience. She then moved to San Francisco with her sister and brother-in-law and worked for a year at the Southern Pacific Railroad Hospital.
She married her husband, Bob Clark, in March of 1960 and that was the end of her nursing career as she wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. They raised their three children in Poulsbo, Wash. When Bob retired from his career at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1989 they moved back to North Idaho, settling in Sagle.
In 2014, after 25 special years in the Sandpoint area, Rosalyn moved to Royal Park Retirement in Spokane where she lived until her passing. At Royal Park she enjoyed her fellow residents and became friends with many of the staff. Rosalyn spent many hours working on jigsaw puzzles and loved to show off the completed pictures. She especially enjoyed going to the Wednesday morning Bible study there and to the Sunday morning fellowship meeting at the Steinbrechers’ home.
Rosalyn is survived by her three children, Todd Clark of Brinnon, Wash., Megan and husband Tim Steinbrecher of Spokane, Wash., and Darin Clark of Port Townsend, Wash.; daughter-in-law Jean Foster, and grandchildren Samson and Sydney Clark of Bremerton, Wash. She is also survived by her sister Carol Nothern of Danville, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Bob.
Rosalyn always said her “claim to fame” was being the founder of the Bonner County Monday Hikers, the first hike being on April 1, 1991. The group grew from its first turnout of eight people to several dozen hikers. For Rosalyn, it was a wonderful experience, especially being their “Mother Hen” in her later years.
