Women's Cancer Group hosts spaghetti fundraiser

BONNERS FERRY — On Oct. 4, Chic-N-Chop hosted the Bonners Ferry Women’s Cancer Education and Support Group’s fourth annual spaghetti feed fundraiser. Community members came together to support the group’s main focus, which is to provide gas cards to those in Boundary County who are battling cancer, in order to assist them with getting to their appointments and treatments.
“As a group, we provide education. We talk and share about cancer rehab, treatment, and other things in our meetings,” said volunteer Sandi Chubb.
The group provides $50 gas cards to cancer patients in Boundary County.
“It isn’t just women, it’s anybody in the county with cancer,” said Chubb, adding that men, women, and children can all benefit from the gas card if it is needed.
The waitresses volunteered their time to serve those attending the event, hustling back and forth from the kitchen to the guests, arms laden with salads, dishes of spaghetti, and drinks.
“It was wonderful, and it is amazing what these women do,” said visitor Michelle Sanborn-Guthrie.
Sanborn-Guthrie waited outside to hug and complimented the chef, Chic-N-Chop owner Ron Erickson, on the fine quality of the meal.
“They didn’t do as well as last year but we think it was because of the other spaghetti feed at the school that evening,” said Erickson. “We hope we do better next year. I want people to turn up more because these ladies really do a lot to help with the gas cards.”
Chic-N-Chop previously hosted a similar event for the Cancer Society, and after that organization ceased to put on the event, the Women’s Cancer Education and Support Group came to Erickson, who agreed to continue the tradition and assist with the annual event.
Though this fundraiser is one of the main events for the group, there are other fundraisers that are held throughout the year.
