The new wash basin vanity in the most recently updated room sports a rustic design which flourishes throughout the room.

BONNERS FERRY — The Kootenai Valley Motel (KVM) was recently purchased by a couple from out of state, who have recently moved to Bonners Ferry. After visiting the area, the couple decided to purchase the KVM and put in the effort to update the rooms, property, and bring some country back into the little motel at the end of town.

The new owners prefer to be private and keep their names to friends and family, so they will be referred to as ‘the owners.’

When you walk into the office, there is a functioning open wood fireplace, which immediately brings warmth and accentuates the rustic feel of the motel, flanked by wooden chairs that bring an invitation of conversation.

One might spot one of the owners on the soon-to-come front porch or out by the firepit strumming his banjo or guitar, welcoming the guests to join in some good ol’ fashioned ‘get to know you’ style of hospitality.

The new owners have begun renovations on the office portion of the property, styling the front similar to an old country western storefront theme.

The first room that was renovated is a prototype of the plans for the rest of the motel. It features knotty pine wall paneling, rustic doors, and country style furniture. The beds in every room have been replaced with new mattresses and box springs, as well as an improved system of bedding.

Instead of the traditional comforter on each bed, the motel implements the triple sheeting method, which brings a neat, clean finish to each room. There is the fitted sheet, set as the foundation, followed by the middle sheet, normally the sheet set between the fitted sheet and the blanket. After the middle sheet, comes the blanket, which is then topped with another flat sheet, completing not only a comfortable bed and finished look, but also being the utmost clean and cost effective.

As the renovations continue to unfold, the KVM renovations will finish with a clean and refreshed look.

There is question about what color to paint the motel, and public opinion on the matter will be appreciated by the owners. The theme for the renovations gears more toward the old western inn front, and the initial colors in question range from brown to gray, but any public opinion would be appreciated.

The new owners of the Kootenai Valley Motel are bringing the hometown country feel to the city of Bonners Ferry for visitors from all around to enjoy.
