BONNERS FERRY — A bee in the cab of a truck triggered an accident off Deep Creep Loop at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7. According to the sheriff report, the bee startled the 17-year-old driver and she lost control of the vehicle and ran off the road.

The truck overturned partially, sliding on the driver’s side until it struck a tree, crushing the roof of the cab onto the driver.

Boundary Ambulance responded to the scene, as well as South Boundary Fire, with mutual aid from North Bench Fire. Extrication was required to remove the driver from the truck.

“The truck was all flattened everywhere except where she was sitting,” said South Boundary Fire Chief Tony Rohrwasser. “It was the only place there was any sort of structure left.”

South Boundary firefighters were able to cut the front hinges on the driver’s side door to remove the pinned driver, who was then transported by Boundary Ambulance to Boundary Community Hospital for treatment.
