Fire contained quickly
BONNERS FERRY — A fire was reported on Icicle Lane around 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 5. Initial reports indicated that it was a shed, but when fire crews arrived it was discovered to be an outhouse which was fully engulfed at the time. The fire had spread to a nearby slash pile and then became a brush fire.
North Bench Fire responded to the call, with South Boundary Fire also called in on mutual aid. Boundary Ambulance was also on scene and Hall Mountain Fire was called to assist.
The fire reached approximately one quarter acre in size but firefighters were able to lay down a line contain it. Idaho Department of Lands was called in, and the fire was eventually turned over to them, although North Bench Fire had a tender on scene until about 5 p.m.
North Bench Fire Chief Gus Jackson attributed the quick control of the fire to teamwork and plenty of volunteer firefighters responding to the call.
“This has been a phenomenal year; a good working relationship with other agencies,” said Jackson. “It is cool to see.”
The outhouse was a total loss but there were no injuries.
