Janette Patrice Sample

After a life lived in love and service, Janette Patrice Sample, 69, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at her home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Private services will be held at a future date.

Jan was born on Jan. 7, 1949 in Prineville, Ore., to Ray and Patricia Gibson. She completed her LPN at Central Oregon Community College at age 17. Jan married Edwin Sample on Sept. 17, 1967, in Madras, Ore. They raised three children and 29 foster children while living in McMinnville, Ore., and Hamilton, Mont.

While a busy mother, Jan attended Montana State University, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She focused her career in home health and hospice, working in Portland, Ore., and Nampa, Idaho. Moving to Bonners Ferry in 2000, Jan continued her career at Bonner General Community Home Health and Hospice. Her last three years were spent working with the elderly at Sunset Assisted Living in Bonners Ferry. She retired from nursing in 2016 beloved by all who knew her. Jan’s nurturing spirit and unconditional love touched the lives of many.

Jan was a member of Bonners Ferry Seventh Day Adventist Church and supported International Children’s Care and other children charities. She enjoyed collecting and reading books, especially cook books. She also enjoyed camping, musical theater, traveling, and gourmet cooking which included canning and making jam.

Jan was preceded in death by her father Ray Gibson and step-father Jim Gibson. She is survived by her husband Ed Sample of Bonners Ferry; her three children Alisa Callos and husband Kevin of Bonners Ferry, Jeff Sample and wife Jackie Goldworm of Coeur d’Alene, and Monica Sample of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Samantha and Zachary Callos; mother Pat Gibson of Gladstone, Ore.; and three sisters, Vickie Stenseth (Harold) of Bend, Ore., Roxy Brown of Madras, Ore., and Pamela Middlestetter (Doug) of Silverton, Ore.
