100 Years Ago

Charles Woods, proprietor of the Amazon Theater, announced that he is building a new theater on 2 twenty foot lots south of the present theater. It will seat at least 500 people with a spacious lobby and will be fireproof in every respect.

John, the 3 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George Irving, drowned in the Kootenai River near the mouth of Deep Creek.

Miss Redfield, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, visited the B.F. schools and after being shown the art, commercial, manual training, and domestic science departments, exclaimed that the work was exceptionally fine and the equipment was far ahead of the ordinary.

The Town Council decided to proceed with plans to pave Main St. Attorney E.M. Flood appeared for W.L. Kinnear and the Sookee estate to protest against including paving the street leading to Meeker’s Blacksmith Shop, stating that this street is not used a great deal and it is not at all necessary that it be paved.

50 Years Ago

Help is needed to prepare the Porthill airport for use. The airport is adjacent to the International Boundary at Porthill and can be used by private aircraft to clear customs. It is scheduled for public use in June.

The Game Department announced a “pheasant plant” in Districts 2 and 7. About 50 hens and several roosters from the Jerome game farm were brought here by Ray Rogers, game biologist.

A check was presented to the City of Bonners Ferry for watershed mitigation efforts in the aftermath of the Myrtle Creek fire. The check for $500,000 came from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development program.

All it takes is a little bit of sunshine and blue skies and JoJo Baker and his magic barbecue welded to the back of his red VW pops up like wildflowers. This time you could smell the smokies and burgers by NAPA Auto Parts on the South Hill, where it was Customer Appreciation Day.
