Dear Naples Families,
Welcome Back! Welcome Spring!
The end of spring vacation and the beginning of spring always seems to bring a new level of growth and excitement to staff and students. Everyone feels a little more spry and spunky. We focus on reviewing school expectations and assist our students in gaining as much information as possible before they head into the summer months. Every little bit you do at home to support your student’s academic achievement makes a positive impact in making them life-long learners.
Research proves healthy, consistent attendance at school sets the foundation for academic and social success. Please help your child arrive on time to school each day. As a parent, I know it is sometimes easier to cave to your child’s desire to go late, check out early, or skip school completely. The battles can be tiring. However, it will ultimately be worth it to get them to school. If you discover there is a specific reason your child is not wanting to come to school, please let us know immediately so we can help create solutions and supports for them.
Spring weather in Idaho is so fun to predict! I like to joke that a spring day in Northern Idaho is one of my favorite four seasons. Please keep this unpredictable weather in mind when sending your child to school. Flip flops may be a good idea in the morning, but by noon the need for mud boots could be a reality. We go outside when it rains. In all my years, I’ve never seen a child melt in the rain. However, I have seen them get wet and muddy. Even with the best intentions of staying dry, they still find a way to get wet and/or muddy. Please help prepare them for all weather the best you can. They won’t be allowed to stay inside unless they have a medical reason. Thank you!
Reminder about technology and toys. I have been noticing tech devices, toys, and gadgets in the cubbies. We ask no toys or tech be brought to school. These items become distractions and stressors for the students when/if they are misplaced or stolen. Naples is not responsible for lost or stolen items. If they bring something for sharing time, please encourage them to let their teacher keep it safe for them during the day.
State-mandated ISAT testing begins for our third, fourth, and fifth grade students next Monday, April 15th. We will be doing our best to keep their school day as normal as possible. Parents can best prepare their children for these tests by getting kids to bed early and providing them with a stable, stress-free morning.
Finally, we have some fun activities taking place this month. Our book fair, hosted by local business Bonners Books, begins in the library Monday, April 15th. The books will be available for purchase during school each day. Our Spring Success Night will take place Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. This will be a time for families to come and see what we’ve been doing in school. Your kids are excited to show off their hard work. The book fair will be also open during the Success Night. Please come visit!
Kindergarten registration for the 2019-20 school year will take place at Naples on Friday, April 26. Ms. Molly and other support staff will be available to answer questions and sign up those sweet, fresh, learners. If you don’t have your own kinder to register, please share the word with friends, family, and community. Thank you!
