BONNERS FERRY — The large field at the Boundary County Fairgrounds filled with excited children toting Easter baskets or bags as they anticipated the annual Easter egg hunt hosted by the Bonners Ferry Lions Club on Saturday, April 20.

After boiling about 150 dozen eggs, the team brought them to the Boundary County Community Restorium, where a group of people there dyed the eggs.

“Then we pick them all up and we brought them down Saturday morning to hide them,” said Vic White, President of the Bonners Ferry Lions Club.

The group had a few volunteers from the Bonners Ferry High School’s National Honor Society who assisted in hiding the eggs. It took the team about 2 to 2½ hours to hide all the eggs that the children found in mere minutes. The Easter Bunny also made an appearance during the egg hunt, delighting the children with hugs and candy filled eggs.

“We at the Lions Club get a hoot out of this just because the kids have a great time,” said White. “You see a lot of smiles on their faces, especially the 0- to 2-year-old area and the 3- to 4-year-old area because they think two or three eggs is a treasure.”

The Lions Club has been putting on this Easter egg hunt for the past 30 years or more, and plan to continue the tradition in years to come.

“We are always looking for volunteers, and if anybody wants to help with the preparation of the boiling of them, that would be appreciated,” said White about the plan for next year’s egg hunt.

After their membership numbers have shrunk, the Bonners Ferry Lions Club is looking for more members to join their ranks. For more information about the Lions Club, contact Donald Solum at donaldsolum@yahoo.com, call 208-267-8916, or visit https://e-clubhouse.org/sites/bonnersferryid/contact.php.
