Shawna Siver takes to the stage for the last time
Shawna Siver will take the stage at the Becker Auditorium one final time on April 27, as the Distinguished Young Woman of Bonners Ferry to welcome a new recipient of the title.
Last October, Shawna and 36 other representatives from around the state traveled to Idaho Falls where they spent one week learning routines in preparation for the state competition. The final result was many new friendships, great memories, and character building.
This month brings the end of a great adventure and brings Shawna’s Distinguished Young Woman experience full circle, as she helps prepare the current group of participants for the upcoming program.
Shawna states, “Through my experience with Distinguished Young Women I have not only made new lasting connections with the ladies in my program. I have had countless opportunities to improve not only my thinking of myself, but of the world and people around me which has help me to better myself and the relationships I have in my life. This past year of overcoming adversities and various struggles in my everyday life have given me the chance to re-evaluate the saying “be your best self” and what it truly means. I have learned that being your best self should be for your own benefit. It should not be a journey to prove yourself to others or follow the path that others believe you should, but should more be directed towards discovering your own strengths and weaknesses and choosing to better those attributes through hard work and diligence to make yourself proud and grow into the woman you want to be.
I am proud to have served as the 2019 Distinguished Young Women, and am forever thankful for the experiences that have bettered my judgment and matured my thinking. I’d like to give a tremendous thank you to the community for supporting this program and the girls involved, as well as thank all of the amazing people involved in making this program a reality and by doing so giving so many other girls the opportunity to have the same life changing experiences that I have had the benefit of.”
This year’s program is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at the Becker Auditorium in Bonners Ferry. Tickets are $12 each, and are currently on sale at Mountain Mike’s Health Food Store.
