BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers hosted a cross country event at the Bonners Ferry High School track. The purpose of the event was not only to run a race, but also to raise money to vest Coeur d’Alene Charter in the Youth Endowment for Activities Foundation, which helps small Idaho schools offset travel costs.

“With entry fees and a silent auction we’ve been able to raise about $450 to be donated to YEA to benefit Charter,” said Coach Tyler Warner.

Timberlake and Coeur d’Alene Charter attended the event that ran two miles around the high school.

Race highlights for Bonners Ferry included Connor Alexander coming in second to Charter’s Logan Hunt. Hunter Smith was third and freshman Taylor DeFalco came in somewhere around the top six (no places were officially recorded). Brady Hinthorn, Austin Donn, and Levi Bonnell all appear to be potential varsity starters for the first meet at Post Falls on Aug. 29.

“In the girls race, Abby Gorton looked dominant, winning the girls race by almost 400m, no runner even came close throughout the race,” said Warner. “Camille Ussher and CeCi Roemer both did well, willing themselves to solid early season performances.”

With the race not being on record, it helps the teams get a feel for where they are at and where they stand against one another, in turn giving them an idea on what needs to be worked on.

“Another great highlight, and one I’d like to emphasize, is the BFHS football team was conducting practice and took the time to stop their meet for both races to cheer on their fellow Badgers whenever the race came near the football field,” said Warner. “I really appreciate the sportsmanship, unity, and the Badger Pride they showed. I also want to thank the volunteers and parents who took time out of their day to help and Athletic Director Conrad Garner for going above and beyond to make sure the course was ready and supporting our athletes. He does an awesome job.”
