Cummings seeks return trip to state swim meet
BONNERS FERRY — Even though Bonners Ferry High School doesn’t have a swimming pool, they still have a swim team, consisting of one Julia Cummings.
Cummings is returning to the sport as a senior and travels down to Sandpoint High School for practices.
“Julia creates a team on her own due to her commitment, enthusiasm, work ethic, and overall positive attitude,” said coach Greg Jackson.
With the two teams practicing together, it brings some camaraderie between the two rival schools.
“Julia is a contributing member of the combined group in encouraging and enhancing our workouts, as well as supporting our competitors at swim meets,” said Jackson.
Cummings competed in the combined 1A-4A enrollment classification, finishing third in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke at the Idaho State Swim Meet Nov. 3, 2018 at the Boise West YMCA.
The points she earned places Bonners Ferry 14 out of 22 participating schools.
“This year I am excited to see Julia continue to improve and remain the top 3A backstroker and sprint freestyler in the state.”
