The ‘hobby-horse’ was invented in the 14th Century by Baron Karl von Drais. In 1818, a more ‘modern’ version was produced by a London coach-maker named Denis Johnson.
Tom Sturdevant, author, producer, and director of the musical play “The Kootenai Kid” (which was performed in 1977), had the posse ride onto the stage on their fine steeds. Much hilarity ensued!
