Active Heroes donation helps replace furnace at Bonners Ferry VFW Hall
Tom Chaney from the Active Heroes organization presented the Disabled American Veterans Chapter Commander Gordon Durham, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Commander Ben Apo and VFW member Mike Spurgeon, and Boundary County Veterans Service Officer Ron Self with a donation to cover the cost of the replacement of the furnace in the VFW hall here in Bonners Ferry.
The VFW hall is also home to the town’s Senior Center, which is leased to the town’s seniors free of charge by the VFW.
The VFW, DAV and Boundary County VSO serve the county’s 1,000+ veterans and family members across the spectrum of veterans benefits and in their times of need. In the past year, these organizations have helped countless local veteran families who have lost homes and loved ones, have helped veterans gain access to critical medical care, and secure needed disability benefits to support their families.
Most recently, the VFW teamed with the Oathkeepers to donate more than 100 complete Thanksgiving food baskets to needy families, including several veteran families, in the Boundary County community, using the VFW hall to collect, collate, and distribute the baskets.
The VFW Hall is a center for community support and care. It provides a touch stone for help for those in need, strengthening our community bonds, and linking people with resources. A special thanks to all those who donated to, participated in, and in any way supported the Carry the Fallen event at the Bonners Ferry Log Inn in September. Your support has directly impacted those in need in our Boundary County community.
