Tis the season to believe

At this time of year, if you were to ask a child what they believe, in you are likely to hear them exclaim “Santa Claus” as their face lights up with anticipation and excitement.

Personally, these are some of the things that I believe in:

I believe in people like Linda Lederhos, who was the initiator of organizing a program to make sure local children would receive a Christmas gift. This has continued for 37 years, making Christmas special through the Care- N- Share program. It gives children the opportunity to experience the blessings of Christmas time that they may have missed out on.

I believe in 8-year-old Paisley Choate, who currently is a cancer warrior, and the community that is supporting her and her family as she fights this battle.

I believe that we live in one of the best parts of the world, surrounded by natural beauty, clean air, good people, and a great lifestyle.

I believe in our local teachers and coaches who dedicate themselves to invest in children’s lives out of their passion for the students and not just for the job. We are fortunate that we have many teachers in the public schools, faith-based schools, and in-home schools that truly make a difference.

I believe in heroes, real heroes … not actors or sports stars who think their public recognition makes their opinion more important, but the people who are really serving. I believe in our men and women who serve in the military, law enforcement, and medical and fire … these are the true heroes of our community and country.

I believe in our community that we call Boundary County, where time and again, we see people who can set their differences of opinion aside and come side-by-side to help lend a hand to those in need, whether it is a house fire, medical need or helping a family through the loss of a loved one. The people of Boundary County set the standard of helping your neighbor.

I believe in volunteers who serve so many roles in Boundary County, giving unselfishly of their time and talents to help others. Where would our county be without groups and people serving the needs of others like Search and Rescue, Chaplain Corps, Friends of the Restorium, Fry Healthcare Foundation, Helping Hands of Naples, Amateur Radio, Ministerial Association, Red Cross, Rotary, Fire, law enforcement volunteers … and I could go on and on with so many others who serve our community. Please consider getting involved in our community and giving back by serving as a volunteer in some capacity.

I believe in the Golden Rule that you treat other people as you want to be treated.

I believe in a tiny baby who was born in a manger and celebrating His birth at Christmas.
