BFHS wrestlers battle against Northwest's best
COEUR d’ALENE — The Badgers wrestled last Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20-21, at the Tri-State Invitational event at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.
With 60 schools from Idaho, Washington, Montana and Oregon sending wrestlers to the event, Bonners Ferry’s wrestlers had a chance to face top-level competition during the two-tday tournament, and all six Badgers scored at least one victory. As a team, BFHS finished 27th with 46 points — just a half point behind Spokane-area teams East Valley and Gonzaga Prep.
Two BFHS wrestlers, Kyle Smith (152 pounds) and Eli Richards (160) advanced to the quarterfinals of their weight class, with Smith winning his first three matches and Richards earning a bye, then two victories.
Marcus Regehr (126), Evan Barajas (132) and Andrew Sandelin-Macintosh (195) also recorded two victories at Tri-State, while Manuel Naccarato received a bye, then won his next match.
- Also last week, Bonners Ferry wrestlers competed at the 2019 Buzz Lucey tournament in Eureka, Mont.
Highlights included a first-place finish by Jake Summerfield (113) and a second-place finish by Bryan Durrette (145).
