Bonners Ferry 58, Lakeland 45

RATHDRUM — The visiting Lady Badgers avenged an earlier one point loss at home as they beat the Hawks 58-45 to win the non-league contest at Hawk Court on Saturday, Dec. 21.

After a close three quarters, the Badgers built an 18-point lead with a minute left as Baylee Blackmore scored 11 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Blackmore also had 8 rebounds and 4 steals and also had the task of guarding 6-foot-4 Lakeland post, Katy Ryan. Ryan had 21 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. She also was the player who made the field goal as the buzzer went off when the Hawks beat the Badgers 53-52 in Bonners Ferry earlier in the season.

“Baylee took control of the game in the middle of the fourth. She did a great job offensively. Defensively we went zone when Ryan was in and man when she was out. At 6-foot-4’ she just plays above us and we had a hard time keeping her away from the basket,” coach Travis Hinthorn said. “They ended on a 5 point run in the last 50 seconds.

“We need to keep working on our end-of-game decisions to win the close games at the end of our season.”

Holly Ansley had a game-high 22 points, including making 12 of 17 free throws. Ansley filled the stat sheet with 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

“Holly drove to the basket well today. She wanted the ball and was under control,” Hinthorn noted.

The Badgers made 21-of-30 free throw attempts. Sierra Hill added 9 points and 7 rebounds and Emma Pinkerton contributed 8 points.

BONNERS FERRY — The Lady Badgers played tough man to man defense and had a 32-24 lead at halftime of their Dec. 19 matchup with visiting Sandpoint.

The Bulldogs closed the deficit to 2 points going into the fourth. After multiple lead changes in the fourth, the Badgers led by 1 with 2:50 remaining.

“We had some turnovers in the last couple of minutes that led to some layins for them. We need to handle the pressure better at the end of games,” said Hinthorn. “It was great to play well for 29 minutes, unfortunately the game is 32 minutes.”

The Badgers had to foul at the end to try to get the ball back and the Bulldogs put the game away making 11-of-14 fourth quarter free throws.

Baylee Blackmore led the Badgers with a career-high 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Blackmore also took two offensive charges. Sierra Petesch added 13 points and 6 rebounds.
