BONNERS FERRY — On Feb. 1 and 2, the Badger wrestlers competed in the 2019 Bonners Ferry High School Invitational.
“The tournament went really well,” said assistant coach Kevin Campbell. “We have an amazing group of parents and community members that come together and help out so we can run a smooth and successful wrestling tournament.”
Evan Barajas (113 pounds) and Preston Coon (152B) placed first, winning matches in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the first place match.
Aeden Carpenter (152B), Gabe See (195), Eli Richards (145), Spencer Eby (126), and Jake Summerfield (98), all placed second in their classes.
Isaiah Shottanana (285), Kyle Smith (152), and Austin Madden (106) all finished third in their classes, with Manuel Naccarato (138) finishing fourth.
“We are very pleased with our wrestlers,” said Campbell. “We are very proud to have taken second place, only losing to a tough veteran Lakeland squad. Especially considering how many freshman and sophomores we have that are starting.”
The team and coaches want to encourage people to come support the team on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. as the team faces off in a duel against Timberlake at BFHS.
“We want a big rowdy crowd,” said Campbell.
