BONNERS FERRY — The Intermountain League District tournament did not start well for the Lady Badgers with a 31-55 loss to the Kellogg Wildcats. The Badgers recovered with a 60-32 win in a loser out game over the Priest River Spartans. That win set up a rematch with Kellogg who lost to Timberlake 52-19 in the championship game. The district rematch would be a different story with the Badgers winning 58-35 to earn a trip to the 3A state championships Feb. 14-16 at Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho.

The Badgers were led by their three Intermountain League All-League players. Holly Ansley led the Badgers with 21 points, Jerzie Pluid added 16 points going 6-7 from the free throw line, and Baylee Blackmore had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

“We knew if we stayed out of foul trouble, rebounded well, and kept our composure, then we had a great chance of coming out with a win,” said head coach Travis Hinthorn. “This is a great group of girls, and we’re happy to get another week coaching them at the State tournament.”

The Lady Badgers will face defending State champs, Sugar-Salem at 12:15 PST.

Freshman Hailey Cheney led the Wildcats with 13 points.
