BFHS girls win one, lose two at state
NAMPA — The Lady Badgers had a tough draw in the first round of the 3A state basketball tournament, playing defending champion Sugar-Salem at Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho.
The Diggers used full-court pressure to score 26 points off 27 Badger turnovers. Sugar-Salem also defeated Homedale and Parma to repeat as state champions.
Holly Ansley led Bonners Ferry with 13 points.
“Sugar is a very physical and skilled team. There is a reason they are defending state champs,” said Hinthorn.

Bonners Ferry 34, Buhl 28: In their second game at the state tournament, the Badgers defeated the Indians from Buhl.
“Physically and size wise, this was a much better match-up for us after facing Sugar-Salem,” said Hinthorn.
Defensively both teams played a box and one on the other team’s leading scorer. The Indians held Holly Ansley to a season-low 5 points, 10 below her season average, while Maecie Liermann guarded Buhl’s Emily Gorrell and held her to 13 points. Gorrell had averaged over 20 points a game over her last 5 games.
Jerzie Pluid led the Badgers with 12 points, Baylee Blackmore added 8, including 4-for-4 from the free-throw line at the end of the game to seal the victory for the Badgers.

Snake River 47, Bonners Ferry 36: Holly Ansley scored 20 points for the Badgers in a loss to the Panthers in the state 3A consolation championship at Skyview High.
Jerzie Pluid had 11 points and four rebounds for Bonners Ferry (18-8), the District 1 runner-up.
Josee Steadman had 17 points and five rebounds for Snake River (16-9).
The Badgers were trying to bring home their first trophy from state since capturing the consolation title in 2013.
