George Albert Schuon

| February 28, 2019 12:00 AM

George Albert Schuon, age 90 of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by family and loved ones at Schneidmiller Hospice House on February 16, 2019. His huge heart finally became too full. George was born on August 2, 1928 in Carleton, Michigan to Clarence and Mary Schuon.

George was married to Jeannette Litalien and they raised three sons and six daughters in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. They then moved to Garden Grove California, finally settling in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

George married Echo Turnbull in 1986 gaining three stepsons and eight grandchildren.

George served in the Army in Italy at the end of World War II. He started his career as a logger, transitioning into a industrial electrician at Louisiana Pacific. After suffering a stroke, he went to work for his son Bob at Schuon Manufacturing at age 69. He worked there for 18 years, riding his bike to work.

George’s great loves were his children, grandchildren and gardening. Known as having a green thumb, his corn towered above all and there was always an abundance of zucchini and tomatoes. His back deck was surrounded by strawberries, and the yard was always manicured to perfection. His flowers will continue to bring us joy each year as they bloom.

George is survived by Echo, his wife of 33 years; two sons, Robert (Brenda) Schuon, and Greg Schuon; four daughters, Susan Hellem, Sandy (Ralph) Sletager, Karen (Dan) Zarn, Laura (Ronnie) McNeil; stepsons, Tim, Barry, Tracy (Jinny) Turnbull; 21 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Vandenberg and Grace Leidt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Schuon; brothers, Jim and Clarence (Shiner) Schuon; daughters, Sharon Schuon and Chris Schratz; son Mark Schuon; and former wife Jeannette Schuon.

Our family would like to especially thank the staff at North Idaho Schneidmiller Hospice House for their excellent, kind care. Donations may be sent to the North Idaho Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene Idaho.

Services will be February 28, 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home 744 N. 4th St. Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814. His final resting place will be at St. Pius X Columbarium. Arrangements are provided by Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Online obituary and registry may be found at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com
