9B Community Food System Potluck set for Wednesday
Looking to learn more about what folks are producing for our local food system? Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 6 p.m., is the second 9B Community Food System Potluck at the Boundary County Fairground’s Memorial Hall.
Paula Rice, of BeeHaven Flower Farm, and Laken Rice, her daughter, of Soulshine Bistro in Under the Sun, will tell their stories of developing a local flower farm as well a local bistro featuring homemade, often homegrown, fresh food.
BeeHaven Flower Farm provides cut flowers and floral design for weddings and events and also serves as a local farmer florist selling fresh, in-season flowers.
The first potluck was held on Dec. 5 at 6 p.m., and featured Casimir Holeski, who talked about his work as a “fruit explorer” here in Boundary County. Casimir Holeski is the founder of the Boundary County Orchard Restoration Project and owner of Infinity Matrix Tree Crops, where he propagates fruit and nut trees that he has found in his explorations of surviving trees in this county. Due to popular demand, he will be giving his presentation again at the UI Extension Office on Friday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. There is no charge for this presentation.
The 9B Community Potluck and Speaker Series is free and open to the all. Please bring a dish to share! The series is sponsored by the GROW! Community Garden organization and UI Extension in Boundary County.
