SAGLE — A Bonners Ferry resident was killed early in the evening on Friday, Jan. 4, when the car she was driving was struck by southbound tractor-trailer as she attempted to turn onto U.S. 95.

Idaho State Police said Beverly Maples, 72, of Bonners Ferry, was eastbound at the intersection of Highway 95 and Dufort Road south of Sagle when she pulled out into the path of a southbound 2014 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer driving by Charanjit Parmar, 55, of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

The semi-truck struck Maples’ 1998 Toyota Sienna van on the driver’s side as she attempted to make a left turn north from Dufort Road onto the highway. Maples was declared deceased at the scene, Idaho State Police said in the press release.

Parmar was not injured. Airbags deployed on the van and seatbelts were worn by both drivers.

Next of kin has been notified, and the investigation continues.
