AARP tax aid for seniors available in Sandpoint and Cd'A

| January 17, 2019 12:00 AM

The AARP TAX-AID preparation help will not be at the Senior Hospitality Center in Bonners Ferry this year because of a shortage of volunteers. There will be a Tax-Aid help in the Sandpoint Senior center, Sandpoint, or in Coeur d’Alene at the Silver Lake Mall.

The volunteers here in Bonners Ferry have helped hundreds of families with their tax preparation from young people with their first jobs to senior citizens and families large and small while keeping up with all the tax law changes, computer program changes ... not to mention the rollout of the Affordable Care Act. Each and every Tax-Aid volunteer gave their time, commitment, and enthusiasm to make the Bonners Ferry Tax-Aid a success. The Senior Hospitality center here in Bonners Ferry has donated their time and space every year which has also made this program work for our community.

AARP Tax-Aid in the Northwest region has more than 400 sites, extending from Idaho, Montana and Wyoming in the east to Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Alaska. Sixty percent of the taxpayers were older than 60.

AARP Tax-Aid is still working hard to keep up with training and understanding of our tax law to further help the communities here in northern Idaho and Western Montana. The nearest North Idaho Tax-aide sites are Sandpoint or Coeur d’Alene. Sandpoints hours are Monday and Wednesday by appointment only at 820 Main, phone 208-263-8680. In Coeur d’Alene, walk-in hours at the Silver Lake Mall (200 W. Hanley Ave.) are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
