Distinguished Young Women Program gearing up for 2019
The Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program (formerly Junior Miss) will soon be underway for 2019-2020. This scholarship and honors program recognizes, rewards, and encourages excellence while promoting self-esteem among young women.
Contestants compete in the following categories for a chance to win scholarships and prizes: Interview, Scholastics, Talent, Fitness, and Self Expression. They are also given an opportunity to participate in “Be Your Best Self,” a program dedicated to the service of others and community awareness.
The winner of the Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women title goes on to represent Bonners Ferry at the Idaho State program in the fall of 2019 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Should she win there, she will then travel to Mobile, Alabama, as Idaho’s Distinguished Young Woman to compete at the national competition in June of 2020.
Last year the local Bonners Ferry program awarded more than $13,000 in cash scholarships to local participants to use at the college or school of their choice.
To participate in the Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program all junior girls must meet the following criteria: be a U.S. citizen, never have been married or pregnant, live with a parent or designated guardian, currently hold at least a 2.0 grade point average, and meet attendance requirements.
