Mount Hall Elementary School to celebrate literacy, school choice

More than 140 students, families, and friends of Mount Hall Elementary School will gather for a special reading event in celebration of National School Choice Week.

Families are invited to Mount Hall Elementary to read with their children at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. The school’s student council will emcee the event and sell popcorn to raise money for a “Buddy Bench,” a spot for students to practice reading with each other. Friends and board members of the school will also be in attendance.

The reading event will be part of Mount Hall Elementary School’s weeklong celebration of school choice. Students will also decorate the school with school choice signs and banners, learn the official School Choice Week dance, and don National School Choice Week’s yellow scarves for a trip to a local ski resort.

This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

“Reading is a big focus at Mount Hall, so we are excited to invite families and friends to share in our students’ literacy journey,” said Lisa Iverson, principal of Mount Hall Elementary School. “We will be celebrating how school choice enables parents to find the best learning environments for their children.”

Mount Hall Elementary School serves 145 students in grades K-5 and enjoys the distinction of being the most northern school in Idaho.
