100 Years Ago

Two local pool hall owners, Mike Miller and Jos. Banning, were recently each fined $5.00 and costs for allowing minors in the pool hall. The same law also provides against the playing of card games for checks and conviction provides for the closing of the place of business.

Engineer Cave, who had been commissioned to make surveys and estimate the cost for paving the downtown area, discussed the matter with the City Council. The area covers parts of Main St., Bonner St., Kootenai St., and Railroad Ave. Mr. Cave’s estimate of total cost of this project, including all necessary filling and building concrete sidewalks to replace the wooden ones, was $58,000. He said that was the maximum and it could be done for a much smaller figure.

The Crescent Garage advertised Ford cars at: Runabout- $500, Touring Car- $525, Coupelet- $650, Sedan- $775, and a truck chassis- $550.

According to Editor C.W. King, in Spokane and all along the line, Bonners Ferry has the name of being the best little business town in the Inland Empire.

Mike Foust has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Irvin Dinning for city council. Dinning resigned Jan. 1.

A house fire destroyed the one –story farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Whitney, located 5 miles east of B.F. near Crossport. Nothing was saved.

Paul Flinn was rewarded Monday for many long years of interest in and promotion of wildlife conservation. The plaque was given by the Capitol Conservation Club of Boise. Flinn came to B.F. in 1947 as a conservation officer.

15 Years Ago

Rein Atteman, Spokane –based Lands Council, and a WSU professor, Charles Pezeshki, pleaded innocent to charges of federal trespassing in the Myrtle Creek Valley in Sept. They believe they are being prosecuted as revenge by the Forest Service for their position on Forest Service logging practices. Trial set for March.

The Bonners Ferry Special Olympics team: Michael Bjoraker, LaDonna Gaston, Charlie Meeker, and Denise Tucker, will be competing in the snowshoe races at the Special Olympics Winter Regional semi-finals at Lookout Pass.

Boundary County honors its members of the armed forces.
