Buddy Badger helps with Hands Only CPR demo
Buddy Badger played the victim in a lesson about hands only CPR during halftime last Friday at the Bonners Ferry High School.

BONNERS FERRY — The audience at the boys basketball game on Jan. 25 was treated to a fun learning experience by Boundary Community Hospital and South Boundary Firefighters. Put to music, and with Buddy Badger playing the part of a victim, the audience learned about Hands Only CPR – which is Call 911, Push Hard, Push Fast.
Members of the Boundary Community Hospital Emergency Department-Time Sensitive Emergency Cardiac Team — Alana Temple, RN, BSN, and Wanda Wilkerson, RN — led the demonstration that was set to music. Temple instigated the idea of CPR demo with the hopes of bringing heart awareness to the students about Hands Only CPR.
“It was a fun way to teach a good lesson that may save lives in our community,” said Boundary Community Hospital Marketing Director Lauren Kuczka.
South Boundary Fire Chief Tony Rohrwasser was happy to participate with his firefighters because he feels that knowing CPR can save lives. They offer free classes at South Boundary Fire Department in CPR and First Aid.
”If there hasn’t been a lapse of time without CPR, we have a better possible chance of saving someone’s life,” said Rohrwasser.
As the demonstration ended, the firefighters carried Buddy Badger out on the stretcher. The plucky Badger survived, even sitting up and waving to the audience on his way out.
