Eastport Parade draws record crowd

A family reunion chose to celebrate by joining the Eastport Fourth of July parade.

EASTPORT — It always amazes me the number of people that come out for the fun of the Eastport Parade. It’s on the very border of Canada and the U.S., too tiny for anything to thrive, but a little post office and the Port of Entry.
But come Fourth of July and the road is lined with cars and people all waving excitedly at the Hall Mountain fire trucks, Idaho Department of Lands, U.S. Forest Service, complete with Smokey Bear and the fun variety of others that join in the parade.
This year we had everything from a large group celebrating a family reunion and marching with a banner, to dogs, horses, quads and classic cars. The parade was followed by a community potluck at Hall Mountain Station Three in Good Grief.
“The Star-Spangled Banner” was sung by Haley Halleman and prayer was offered by Kelly Halleman. The turnout this year was a blockbuster with around 225 people who came to enjoy food and community.
