BONNERS FERRY — On May 21, local artists and businesses came together for the Art Walk.
Art students were asked to create a body of work to show and choose at least five from the collection to show in various places around downtown Bonners Ferry. It is the end of the year showcase for all advanced art classes such as Advanced Art, AP Studio Art, and Independent Studio Study.
The artists also needed to compose an artist’s statement, make title cards, contact local businesses, advertising, setting up the show, and dress up for the evening of the showcase. They were also expected to reflect on the experience, give constructive criticism, and celebrate successes with their peers.
“It was a great experience, I had a really good time, and I’m looking forward to next year,” said student artist Gabe Egge.
“The artwalk went really well in my opinion,” said Caleb Pease, also a local student artist. “We had a lot of visitors and most were really engaged and interested in the meaning behind our art.”
As people browsed their art, the students were able to talk to them and tell them about their work.
Lubava Fedoseyeva said, “I enjoyed meeting and talking to all kinds of people about our artwork and also giving exposure to artists who dream to pursue their art.”
The event gave the artists a taste for what it is like to showcase their artwork to the public.
“I was both surprised and happy with the outcome,” said artist Aleah Jones. “I was proud to see what I had accomplished during this year in my A.P. art courses, and I can’t wait to see what I can create for the future.”
“I am so incredibly proud of all my young artists,” said Josh Knaggs, Bonners Ferry High School art teacher. “Showing art is a huge experience in putting one’s self out there, and they did so with Badger Awesome gusto.”
