Curtis ‘Wayne’ Stewart

June 17, 1949 — February 26, 2019

Wayne Stewart was born in Plainview, Texas, to Sarah and EJ Stewart. He was one of five children and spent his early years in Plainview and Stinnett, Texas, before the family settled in Amarillo.

After high school, Wayne worked as a helicopter mechanic in Vietnam. He joined the U.S. Army and later retired from the National Guard. While in the Army, Wayne and his family lived in Germany for three years. While there he and his children enjoyed participating in Volkmarches and touring the castles. In his free time, he coached a youth baseball team.

After leaving the Army, the family settled in Bonners Ferry, where Wayne worked at Meeker’s Machine Shop and was a member of the volunteer fire department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and taught Hunter’s Safety courses.

He also enjoyed playing the guitar with the church choir for several years at St. Ann’s. He passed his love of music and the guitar to several of his grandchildren, gifting them with their first guitars. He was also known as “Boomer” and he helped with starting the Fourth of July fireworks.

Wayne moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1999 and worked for the Department of Corrections until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling in his RV to visit his children and grandchildren in Texas, Idaho and Nebraska.

Wayne passed away on Feb. 26, 2019, after a short illness. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bobby and Jackie. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Patricia Rosa Stewart; his four children, Sandy Rowland (Marty), Mike Stewart (Traci), Tim Stewart (Melissa), all of Nebraska, and Sarah Jenkins (Ryan) of Bonners Ferry. He had 15 grandchildren, Jamie, Jon, Travis, Riley, Hudson, Noah, Onaleigh, Caitlin, Sean, Trace, Maggie, Bailey, Hope, Gary, and Zach.
