Bonners Ferry High School Team, Dukes Claybusters: Wow!!!! I think I’m the proudest shotgun shooting coach in the great state of Idaho. Just got the final results on the Spokesman Review Shoot. Dukes Claybusters came in fourth out of 28 shooting teams in the Inland Northwest Trap Shoot over eight of the worst eight weeks weather wise that I can remember.

Youth Division winner was Marlin Odessa Gun club total 726, Bonners Ferry Claybusters 660. Individual scores: Juniors: Lane Lobe of Odessa Gun club 187 winner; Bonners Ferry Claybusters - Wyatt Hathaway 155; Dane Hathaway 127; Melanie Campbell 113; Zane Carver, late starter 90.

Sub. Jr. - Winner, Garrett Burch, Kettle Falls Gun Club 171. Bonners Ferry Claybuster; Tied for second was Kamen Nelson 168; and Colin Fairchild 168 ; Ryan Carelli 152; Wyatt McDonald 136; Cassidy Underhill 73..

Big Sky I-Net Trap Shoot: Top Jr. Teams; Metaline Falls 1213 first place, Bonners Ferry Claybusters second place with 1178. Top Sub Jr. was Megan Moorehead - Metaline Falls with 329 she also won High Lady by nine birds. T.J. Taylor Metaline Falls second with 288 and third place went to Wyatt Hathaway B.F. with 276. Top Sub Jr. were Ace Franklin Yakima Valley gun club first place 330, Second place was Colin Fairchild B.F. with 300, and third place Hunter Marshall - Metaline Falls with 295.

I would like to thank all these young shooters for all the effort they put into these good scores, shoveling snow in bitter cold, loading the trap and putting up with the coach. Also the parents support, that really means a lot. Also Charley Runnion, Ken Brink, and Terry Spence. Thank you all. We still have one more week of the Camas Prairie Shoot, as it started two weeks later and goes 10 weeks — 16 yards only.

March 10

Bonners Ferry Gun Club: Big Sky I-Net Trap Shoot. Bonners Ferry Gun Club placed fifth team wise, not near as good as the Claybusters. I wonder if age has anything to do with it? A 787X800 won and B.F. had 734X800.

The Spokesman Review Shoot - Division 3 - Bonners Ferry Gun Club placed 11th out of 22 teams, we did not have anyone in “AA” Class or “A” Class. “B” Class was won with a 194X200. Charley Runnion 169 “C” Class, a 187 won, Paul Carelli broke 164. “D” Class shooter James Daniels broke 161 and a 187 won.

The Spokesman only has a Veteran Class, I found out to late. Most clubs has a Sub Veteran age 55, Vet 65, and Senior Vet 75. So I am a SR Vet score of 187 and 190 won Vet. Class, Ken Nystrom is a Vet score 173, Ron Campbell is a Sub Vet. with a 164. So be it. It’s their rules.

Bonners Ferry Gun Club in house tournament finished today. Ten weeks 16 yards and handicap add two yards to 16 yard score for handicap yardage. We throw away two lowest scores for eight weeks total. “A” Class winner Lonny with 349X400; second Charley Runnion 320X400; third A tie Bill Dundar 317 and Ken Nystrom 317; fourth place Paul Carelli 310, “B” Class winner was Wally Dinning with a score of 307X400; second place Ron Campbell 304; third place Mike Pruitt with 297; fourth place was won by James Daniels with 294. Bill Bustillos had 293; Ken Brink 234; Dean Nelson 292; for a total of 13 shooters. We had our usual four Annies with 12 year old Wyatt McDonald winning two of them. Ten shooters paying two places. Great Shooting Wyatt. Some of the over the hill gang was stepping on their lip but not for long. Great fun, good seeing Justin Julian and Bob Riddle back out again.

Shoot safe and keep your powder dry.
