Valley View kids raise $2,184 for American Heart Association

| March 21, 2019 1:00 AM

Valley View Elementary, once again, participated in the American Heart Association’s annual fundraiser, Jump Rope for Heart.

This year the AMA celebrated their 30th birthday with the Jump Rope for Heart program. They changed some aspects of the program and now call it the Kid’s Heart Challenge. At Valley View that meant that we were able to utilize many different ways of exercise during the month of February to challenge our students to be healthier.

The students also learned about some health topics that we normally don’t have the time for in the physical education classes. Kindergartners to fifth graders learned about healthy foods versus “every once and awhile foods,” risk factors of a heart attack and cholesterol.

Students were welcome to attend the Feb. 27 Jump Rope event, whether or not they raised money for the fundraiser. We were pleased to have more than 145 students in attendance. That’s a lot of exercise!!

We were able to raise $2,184 this year, which was just shy of our goal this year. Thank you everyone who help with our event and donated to the AMA cause.

Our top fundraisers this year were Emmett Ratcliff, Cameron Kerttu and Kaydence Culler.
