BCMS braces for spring break, fourth quarter
It has been a very busy but positive last few weeks to end the third quarter! Spring has sprung and we are all facing some cabin fever and can’t wait to get to spring break! In that spirit BCMS has welcomed March Madness and taken it head on with lots of experiences and activities for our students and involving our community.
We love competition at BCMS and March Madness gives us the perfect opportunity. To show our spirit we had several events in conjunction with the NCAA basketball tournament. First, we had a door decorating contest to encourage students to begin thinking about their future careers. It was pretty crazy but thanks to our students and staff, we had an amazing showing for the community to judge. At the end of the day, Kelly Hinthorn won the competition (no surprise) with Mrs. Stolley taking home the sixth grade prize and Mrs. Schulte taking home seventh grade awards. It was a sight to see!
We also had a March Gladness competition where staff competed to come up with the most motivating quotes using a bracket system. We are still determining the winner but it is a good time to get some feel good quotes.
In conjunction with those programs, our eighth grade class just completed their career unit for Language Arts. Their final project included presenting their goals and future plans to a panel of community judges and then taking a trip to NIC to explore the local options and learn about what college is all about. It was a great event where our students really shined and earned the kudos of many community members.
To wrap up our week of madness, we will have an assembly schedule today to make room for a student vs. staff basketball game from 3-4 p.m. If you are available, stop by to see some of the leftover madness.
Our band recently competed at large group festival earning many top honors but I am most proud of our students getting nods for their behavior while there. It is always great to hear that our students were able to perform so well while also being respectful and well behaved.
We have a choir concert tonight! Come see the middle school and high school students put on a show for you!
After thinking there may not be any snow for our ski trips, February brought plenty of snow and we were able to enjoy our ski days though seventh and eighth grade weather was extremely cold! Sixth graders enjoyed a balmy day with wet snow but beautiful weather. Looking forward to next year already.
We will be enjoying our ski days soon with eighth grade skiing on Wednesday, February 27, seventh grade on Wednesday, March 6, and sixth grade on Wednesday, March 13.
Middle School Track began Monday, March 25 and we had about 70 students out! We will not have practice today (Thursday the 28th). Our only home meet will be April 19, so be sure to come watch our middle school students run fast.
Our Gear Up grant has been very positive so far. Working in conjunction with the activities of Mrs. Hinthorn’s class and the NIC’s Equinox grant, this program has been able to afford many opportunities for our seventh grade students so far. They recently took students on a career walk downtown where students were able to visit with business leaders of town and learn a little bit about what our businesses in this town are about. Our next activity will be taking students to the University of Idaho Engineering Expo on April 26! Then, they will be taking students to the University of Montana on May 2. What a great use of grant funds!
Report cards will be mailed home the Monday after spring break along with information about fourth quarter activities and expectations. It is hard to believe only a couple of months left ...
Go Badgers!
