Faye ‘Mamo’ Gladney
Faye “Mamo” Gladney passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at the age of 92 with her family by her side. A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019, at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.
Faye was born in Maple, Okla., on Feb. 28, 1926, to Guy and Alma Abbott. She graduated from high school in Freer, Texas, and soon after married the love of her life, Jack Gladney. They were married for 61 years before he passed away in 2009. They raised a son and daughter, Kenneth and Jackie.
Faye ran a ranch household, taking care of her husband and children. Jack and Faye moved from Falfurrias, Texas, to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, in 1988 after Jack retired from managing the Mariposa Ranch. They spent many years traveling the country together in their motorhome and made regular trips back to Texas to visit their son and his family.
Faye loved cooking and sewing, making clothes for her grandchildren, and dozens of quilts which she gave away to family and friends. Her great-grandchildren remember how she always had a candy or a balloon in her pocket as a surprise when they came to visit. Faye spent the last few months of her life in the tender care of Boundary Community Hospital Extended Care Facility, where she charmed everyone who met her.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Alma Abbott, her husband Jack Gladney, her brother Kenneth Abbott, and her sister Dorothy McCoy. She is survived by her brother, Leonard Abbott, Pearland, Texas; her son, Kenneth (Brenda) Gladney, Newcastle, Okla.; and her daughter, Jackie (David) Smith, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; four grandchildren, Cody (Ashley) Gladney, Frisco, Texas, Stacee (Jeremy) Dineen, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Jamie (Garrett) Hull, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Casey Smith, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; as well as seven great-grandchildren: Erin and Carson Dineen, Rowdy, Reese, and Ruger Hull, and Charley and Cade Gladney; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
