Get a grip: Loosen up on the club for better swing
Proper grip pressure is a key component of a fundamentally sound golf swing.
I see far too many players grip the club as if they were strangling it. Gripping the club tightly leads to too much tension in the wrists, forearms, and shoulders preventing a fluid release of the clubhead through the hitting zone.
One of my mantras in golf instruction is to “Grip the club as if it were a baby bird; you don’t want to kill it and you don’t want to let it go.” Remember that next time you play or go to the driving range. There’s a good chance that you’ve been gripping the club too tightly. It’s a simple thing that can cure a variety of swing issues.
