Valley View Elementary School: Another great year comes to an end!

The Valley View students and staff are preparing to end another great school year and enjoy the warmer weather Boundary County has to offer this time of the year. Our ISAT testing is completed, however, education continues to happen and students are experiencing a lot of off campus field trips. We at VV strive to provide kinesthetic educational experiences in hopes to create positive lifelong memories.

Talking about memories, I want to express that our fifth grade promotion is at VVES gymnasium this year on Thursday, June 6. It should be a great morning full of recognition and the closing of another chapter of these student’s lives. We know they are going to do great in middle school, but we sure are going to miss them here at VV. Please come celebrate their promotion with us if you can.

This past month we celebrated the character trait self-discipline. The definition of self-discipline is the ability to make yourself do something, even when you don’t want to do it. The following students were nominated by their teacher for being self-disciplined. They are: Oakley Pluid, Bayleigh Bates, Brooke Cope, Aubrey Rozok, Legacy Curiel, Talon Jacobson, Madalynn Beggerly, Daisy Williams, Caiden Stolley, Cheyenne Schutte, Victoria Helsper, Eva Naranjo, Randi Hibbard, Brayden Patton, Justin Swanson, Joseph Howell, Denver Barlow, and Jane Moellemer. Our two staff members nominated were, Mr. Steve Bortz and Mrs. Amber Weymer. Please congratulate all of these self-disciplined individuals when you get a moment.

Summer is right around the corner and I realize that many people will be traveling near and far and hope everyone has safe travels. With that said, I know out of experience that it can be easy when traveling to have our kids entertained with music and/or some electronic device. My own personal challenge is to have more intentional conversations with my children when commuting and have them bring a book or do some mental math games as a family. This is a great way to keep the mind active and growing over the summer and interact as a group. I read recently that the more time a child is on an electronic device the less attention span they have in the classroom, which often equates to their overall success as a student.

With that, I need to communicate that this summer VV is not hosting our annual Summer Reading Program, however, the reading program at our downtown library branch is still available. Their doors open at 8am, Monday-Friday and start the reading program on Wednesday, June 19 and go until Wednesday, July 31. Please continue to read or be read to. Have a great summer and we look forward to seeing all of you in September.
